Here we go again. A new year,
new resolutions and new promises. Time to get serious about
where we are going and evaluate where we have been. Time for
introspection and reflection.
This year I am making a new resolution
and commitment. One that I am determined to succeed at. One
that will make a difference on even the smallest scale. Obviously
I have failed miserably each year with my workout program. Gym
memberships have gone to waste and eating habits sabotaged by
great Italian cooking.
I am writing this editorial shortly
after reading a book by Bruce Wilkinson called The Prayer of
Jabez. This is a small book, about 6 inches wide and 8 inches
long, with only 93 pages. It was a gift from a friend who told
me she had purchased it at the dollar store. This $1 investment
from a friend is about to make a difference in the life of some
kid who has no wheels to call his own. Allow me to introduce
you to a new non-profit organization called “EveryKidDeservesaBike.org.”
I am at a point where I want
to make a difference in the life I live and in the lives of
others. I want to make sure that when the day comes and I am
pushing up daisies, that I have left the world, my son and those
I love, with something they can be proud of. After I read Wilkinson's
book, I began thinking about kids who don’t have much,
and parents who struggle to give their children a bountiful
Christmas, and I thought about how wonderful it would be to
give some kid a new bike. Make that plural: to give some kids
new bikes.
My New Year's resolution
is to make a real difference in the lives of many children at
Christmas time in 2007. Tony
Robbins says it best in his Seven Day Get the Edge program: “Wealth
is measured by what you give back.” Tony expresses how inner
wealth grows by the things we give and the lives we touch along
the way, how gratitude is the key to success and faith is the
balance to all achievement.
I hope this editorial inspires
the people reading it to make a difference this year in someone
else’s life. I hope by reading this editorial you are
inspired to do something extraordinary for someone else. And
I truly hope you will log onto my new web site www.EveryKidDeservesaBike.org
and ride with me towards what will be the first New Year's resolution
I have actually stuck to.
Peace to all and Happy New Year.
